Three-lined potato beetle larvae (Lema daturaphila)

Found a wild-growing patch of Chinese Lanterns, were clusters of eggs, adults and these larvae, all of the Three-lined Potato Beetle. The green lumps on the backs of the larvae is frass (insect poop), that they place there, presumably to deter predators.

I guess the deterrent is a common one for all species. Super detail and information. V.

I'd certainly be put off making a meal of them. Fascinating though how this behaviour develops.

Well, that would be a deterrent for sure! Excellent detail and an interesting capture. V.
