Elm sawfly larva (Cimbex americanus)

Larose Forest

This is the huge larva of the Elm Sawfly, a large insect in the Hymenoptera order. For a look at the impressive adult: http://www.pbase.com/laroseforest/image/106079624

Typically, these larvae are white or greenish, but I was really lucky and found the pink form! I love their little round (bald!) head with the black eye just barely visible.
