This haiku is one of the first I can remember seeing and it appealed to me all those decades ago, and still does today. I am not sure who wrote it. I want to say Basho, but that may be wrong. (However, thanks to Margot's sleuthing, I now know that it is Basho who wrote this haiku and the translation is by R.H. Blyth, which makes great sense since I had copies of Blyth's works on haiku back when I copied this into my notebook. Thanks, Margot!!!).
In the dark forest
A berry drops;
The sound of water.
