Dog tick, female

Another sign of spring, but one less welcome, is the tick! I discovered this engorged one on Sasha this morning. While I am a big fan of arachnids of all types, I have to say that these ticks are not particularly endearing.

That's one nasty looking tick! Your poor dog! Was she okay? It's so important to make sure your dog doesn't have any ticks. The best way to do that is to take your pet to an animal clinic. They'll make sure your dog has the best tick prevention. Good luck! http://www.stfrancisanimalclinicnaples.com/flea-tick-heartworm

I found an engorged one like this one in Blue's area thinking it was a small rock I picked it up only to discover I needed to flush it.

Looks like it could be a banner year for them thanks to the weather :-(

It's actually quite beautiful as presented here, Christine. Almost sculptural with a marble-like quality.

Very good close-up image Christine.

Superb close up!
I find them so disgusting. But A drop of lavender oil, eucalyptus or tea tree oil soon gets them out!

horrible things...!!

I don't like these nasty guys. They carry so many diseases. Lots of Lyme disease around here which is carried by the Deer Tick. It's a great close up though!

It looks like it can take a chunk of flesh out of you. Fortunately we don't get too many of them in the city. Excellent closeup capture though. V

These really creep me out!!!!!!
Karen Stuebing02-Apr-2012 22:41
Yeh, I'm not crazy about these myself. Especially when I get an itch and discover one burrowed in my skin. They only get this big on dogs though. Interesting close up though. It looks almost benign here. V.

I really really dislike ticks....I pulled two off of me yesterday after walking around taking pictures.....and I used bug/tick spray!

Hard for sure and ready to pop for the seed ticks to emerge :-(

Good that you found it. It looks so harmless -- which we know it is not. Hard looking carapace.
