Muskrat lodge

This is a very freshly constructed muskrat lodge. In cattail marshes these are relatively common sights. When there is a lot of deep water and lots of cattails, muskrats will erect these cozy homes for the winter. The entrance is underwater. In some cases, muskrats will build bank burrows, particularly where cattails are scarce.
