I was admiring the size of an enormous branch that long ago had fallen from a big sugar maple in the Nortel woods, when I suddenly saw these tiny little fungi. At first glance they look like nothing so much as a couple of orangey dots, but look at them with a macro lens or a hand lens and you can see that they are a sac fungi rimmed with fine black "hairs", hence their common name.
