Smartweed caterpillar (Acronicta oblinita), #9272

Today I saw this very strikingly colour caterpillar, which is pretty common in late summer, early fall. The species is very, very variable and can occur in many colour phases. As a moth, it belies the colour of its "juvenile" stage!
