Dogwood spittlebug nymph (Clastoptera proteus)

Fletcher Wildlife Garden. There were a number of nymphal cases on a red osier dogwood, and a few of the very tiny adults around. The adults are quite unlike most other spittlebugs, in shape and pattern. These secretions seemed to be a bit thicker and less foam-like than is usually found with the common meadow spittlebugs and diamond-backed spittlebugs.

Awesome, Christine. What a transformation they do, these spittlebugs. Always very interesting to read your comments. You should think about publishing a book with all your knowledge and pictures, Christine. Big V

Gosh, when a restaurant serves "foam" on a dinner plate, I hope that it is not spittlebug foam!
Fascinating shot Christine! V
