Greenbelt trail area in the west end. This bright green little bug is the nymph stage of the adult Ambush Bug. Like the adults, it sits inconspicuously in flowers and waits for its prey to land. Just as the goldenrod crab spiders do.
Ambush bugs, like many other bugs, have piercing mouth parts designed to suck bodily juices from their victim, which is what this tiny little guy is doing. The bodies remain intact and can be seen dangling from plants, or even lying on top, seemingly dozing, but in fact, dead.
