There is a trapdoor in the floor, just in front of where this lovely old lady is sitting, leading to an air
raid shelter. There is a network of air raid shelters under Beijing, built when it was feared that the
Americans would bomb the city. The Americans left it a while and built McDonalds restaurants instead.
