What looks like a canal is actually the road. There were many stretches like this, with detours round them. Here is where
I attempted a detour round a detour and came to a sticky halt. I was rescued by a following driver who had had the foresight
to pack a snatch strap (Thank you, Bob!), but there was another 20 km like this to go. There are actually two quite
reasonable alternative roads: the New Strzelecki track which I had intended to take, and the Bore Track, which I didn't
know about. The maps of the area (I had several) vary from useless to sometimes misleading. But that's no excuse!
