This the picture of Dr Mohsen Moghadam that I took it from his collection in his home, (Moghadam Museum) in Tehran.
Unfortunately not many Iranian nor Westerners knows about him except few. During my visit I met Mr Assadullah Mirza Aghajani, the museum keeper, who helped me by sending the Farsi version of Dr Moghadam's biography.
Dr Mohsen Moghadam (1279 – 1366)
This beautiful house became a museum after the death Mr Mohsen Moghaddam and his wife, Salma Koyomjian. Moghaddam donated his house to the Art and Archeology Departments of the University of Tehran to be used by students and researchers studying Persian.
Apparently the Moghaddam family originate in Maragheh. The family then moved to Zanjan, and later lived in Tehran. Most members of his family were in the military.
Moghaddam was born in a house near to Sheikh Hadi street and the family later moved to this house. From early age he used to be a collector of stamps, old coins, old antiques stuffs. In his youth, he finished Dar al-Funun school and went on to study in a school in Germany school. At the age of 12, he and his brother Hassan went to the Lausanne in Swirtzerland to study. They returned to Iran in 1919. He was student of the well known art tutor, Kamal-ol-Molk and studied art.
He went to Florence, Italy for further education in art where he studied for a further 3 years. After this he spent around 2 years in Germany undertaking further education and research in art. Whilst studying in Paris, he met his wife Salma Koyomjian. After returning home in 1936, he worked in the Ministry of Archaeology for a short time. He worked with French archaeologists in finding (searching) of Takhte Jamshid (Persepolis) In 1347, he achieved one of the research positions in the Art college of the University of Tehran. During his period, he undertook many scientific, research projects in universities and other national institutes.
Moghaddam was the first Iranian to take Legion of Honour from Charles de Gaulle. He also received the Palm medallion.
Dr Moghadam designed the emblem of the University of Tehran. It is based on an image, which can be found in the stucco relief and seals of the Sasanid period. In this case, it is a copy from a stucco relief discovered in the city of Taysafun [Ctesiphon].
University of Tehran The history of the establishment of University in Iran dates back to the year 1851 and the establishment of Darolfonoon – which was founded as a result of the efforts of Mirza Taghi Khan Amir Kabir, aiming at training and teaching Iranian experts on many fields of sciences.
