I went to PS 24 from K-8. This building housed K -3 and the other building of 24 was acrosss the street. It was built in the 1800 and torn down in the late 60's. it housed 4-8 grades. . Gym was in the basement of the "new" building ( the one pictured). We walked to school and for special events we walked with our class to the Museum of Science and used the auditorium.

Correct address is 775 Best Street. For a long while, this building housed the Science Magnet School (PS 59) before it moved into the Buffalo Museum of Science. It later became an annex to Highgate Heights but I believe it is currently vacant.

Attended kinder., 1st and 2nd grade, beginning Sept. 1952. I can still recall gym class in the basement with all manne of piping and a huge furnace. Included for gym was a new wooden horizontal ladder for exercise. 04.2008.

I also graduated in 1949 with the graduation held at the museum of science auditorium. Mrs Dye was my teacher in the seventh grade, also had Mr Parker for a teacher. The older building certainly was a fire trap. grades 1-4 held gym classes in the basement and in the wading pool when not flooded. We played softball in the pool with painted bases and if the fielders missed a hit ball, it rolled on for a very long way.

Graduated in 1949 when grades 5 - 8 were across the street. This building was used for grades K - 4 grades on the corner of Best St. and Fillmore Ave. This was the newer building of the two, and they tore the other one down many years ago. The other building was a fire trap with dry wooden floors and stairs. We had gym classes in the Humboldt Park wading pool before they flooded it in the summer for wading.
