Kensington

525 Grider St. Buffalo

Buffalo had two Kensington theaters; neither of which were on Kensington Avenue. This one is at 525 Grider Street; the other, which is probably more well known, was Shea's Kensington on Bailey. Shea's Kensington no longer exists.

Thanks very much for this - I was born in 1949, and grew up in the 'burbs, but do remember many as we actually took the bus downtown (by ourselves when probably about age 10 or 12!). I remember especially the downtown theatres, but also went to the Glen in Wmsv, the Granada and still visit the Amherst weekly for the UB film series...I also remember the theater on Bailey which became an Art House when I was in college.

Back in the fifties, we would call it the little dump. You would have to put your legs and feet in the seat to avoid what we were at least told were rats running around. Great memories.

I lived a few blocks from this theatre in the late 40's and took my first date there for a show. At that time, it was known as "the Dump". Afterwards we headed over to Alfieri's drugstore for a soda.

This is the theater that my sisters called the little K or (dip) because it wa owned by Dipson. I remember the bald headed manager who pushed the button to start the show as we shouted "we want the show).
