Lovejoy

1171 E. Lovejoy, Buffalo

This theater has been converted to an indoor swimming pool; there is very little on the inside to suggest that it was ever a theater. The staff are warm and welcoming, and are eager to show anyone around.

I am a decendant of the Rappaports.. I grow up at the lovejoy in the 60's and 70's had many birthday party there. There are so maney memories of my Aunts and grandparnets running the place I could go on forever. I do have a few pictures of old place and would like to posts them on the web for all to share, can someone tell me the best place to post. Thanks to everone who loves these old places and keeps them alive today.

Supposedly at one time only Shea's Buffalo had a bigger screen than the Lovejoy.

The Lovejoy Theater was one of three built by the Rappaport family who lived in the Lovejoy/Iron Island neighborhood. The Iron Island Museum at 998 Lovejoy Street has photos of all three theaters and other memorabilia. This theater was one of the most beautiful, all Art Deco with mirrors in the lobby. The picture we have of the marque was found on a Blizzard of 77 photo. A pool - okay - but a restored movie theater - better.
