Anchor Bar

1047 Main St. Buffalo

This is where "Buffalo Wings" were invented. It's a great place, and is home to some of the best live jazz in Buffalo. This is my wife's favorite; probably because they asked her for proof one time when she was in her forties.

Stopped in the Anchor about 15 years ago as a tourist. Never went there when I lived in Buffalo in the mid 60s . Great place I enjoyed it.

Used to sit at the bar in the early 70's with Craig MacCleverty [Casey's bartender] and sip a few. Also took a few UB friends there to enjoy wings and beer.

I went to school across the street, Bryant & Stratton. Never did graduate but I did put plenty of time in at the bar...too bad it wasn't eligible for credit hours.

I remember having dinner at The Anchor Bar with my wife and my brother and his wife, sitting at our table watching a mouse, sitting on his hind legs in the middle of the dining room floor watching the waitresses scurrying all over the place serving the diners !! It was hilarious !! God, I loved the Old Anchor Bar when Frank and Theresa's Son owned the place !!
It's too nice now !!

The older woman who sang there was named Dodo Greene, who is deceased now. Jazz was the usual staple there. It is not on Delaware, but Main Street around the corner from Buffalo General Hospital, which is on High Street.

I have never hung out there much, but have always enjoyed stopping in there. Back inm the early 80's a girlfriend and I had dinner there and an older woman started belting out some great jazz tunes. I still don't know who she was or if it was planned or not, but boy could she sing. The wings are still great!

I went to Buffalo General Hospital School of Nursing right around the corner. My roomate and I would walk up to Anchor bar to get wings with a hammer in our purse, for protection, just in case! We had to walk past the BGH psych hospital to get there and we were always freaked out someone was going to follow us from there. As a nursing student, I took care of Theresa, wife of Frank the owner, when she was in the hospital. What memories I have of that time from 1977 to 1980!

If this was the place on Deleware and Tupper or Virginia My aunt was a friend of the couple that owned it and her daughter(the owners) was asked for food on a Sunday night and none being available cooked up chicken wings that were to be used for soup for Monday lunch and walla a time honored food was born.Breading etc were added later by cooks thru out the world but my best wings were from the Northampton Inn near the old Rockpile.
