Lincoln Theater

The Lincoln Theater was located at 1406 Broadway, Buffalo, NY, and dated from the Silent Movie era. This picture was taken sometime in the 1980's, and like so much of Buffalo, one day it was just gone.

I was born in 1947 and lived in 1501 Broadway. We went every Saturday afternoon. Once I went home crying because the ticket lady did not believe I was under 12 and I did not have enough for an adult ticket. My grandfather walked back with me and straightened her out!

I was born in 1946 and I remember visiting my Grandmother who lived in the upper portion of the building to the immediate left of the theater. I remember going there on Saturday afternoon to see the old movie serials. I remember rocket man and the Lone Ranger. Until this site, I never knew any of the history of the building. What fun to think back.

My grandmother, in the late forties and early fifties, would give me 11cents for the show and 5cents for candy, and send me off to the Lincoln. Children were not allowed to sit in the padded seats. We had to sit on the hard wooden ones. If all the wooden seats were filled, you received a piece of newspaper and you sat on the paper in the aisle. Looking back at the crowded wooden building it was a wonder no one died in a fire. Yes, the candy stand was the smallest I have ever seen. Lots of memories watching all those old WWII war and cowboy movies on a wonderful Saturday afternoon.

I went to PS 44 (1956-1957) just up the block from the Lincoln, every Friday night they showed the old 1930's horror movies, after seeing the double feature, which was over at 10:30 PM I ran home all the way so the monsters couldnt get me.

I was born in 1965, and as a youngster I always remember seeing this boarded up theater. Then, for a very brief period in the late 70s, it reopened. I saw Jaws there. Later, while in high school, I worked down the street at Super Saver. My boss Brownie Szeglowski made awesome kielbasa, both fresh and smoked.

I remember going to this movie theatre when I was a child in the early 1960's. My brother and I would go on Saturday mornings to see the "Cartoon Festival" and "The Three Stooges". I don't remember much more except for the thin flat hardwood seats, "Ray" who was the usher and his "Mother" I believed who would frequently manage the ticket booth and the candy stand. Occasionally I was lucky enough to see some real "Monster" movies back then. The Blob, Dinosaurs, etc. Thank you for the fond memories.

I was so touched to see a photo of the old Lincoln Theater! I remember going there with my Dad and picking out candy at the tiniest candy stand that I've ever seen in a movie theater! The lady that owned this theater with her son was always at the entrance selling tickets. She was very sweet and kind. What a great memory! Thanks for including this photo in your wonderful collection!

This theatre was an early wood structure which burned to the ground around 2001 or so. It was still recognizable as a theatre when I saw it weeks before it was lost.
