Giant Coaster

The Giant Coaster was really a pretty good roller coaster - an original wooden one. It was of course, overshadowed by the mighty Comet, but it usually had shorter lines.

other sizes: small medium original auto

I would have to say The Yellow Coaster was my first "real" roller coaster. I rode it with my dad. Can't say I ever had the nerve to ride the Comet, too many "scary" stories from my older sister. We visited the park till the end, mainly with my friends more for the beach than the rides. Now that I have my own family we talk of the times my wife had and I had with our families when we were kids. We could only wish that there was something as magical as Crystal Beach still around.

Sorry "Guest," but Paula was right. The Comet was one of the oldest steel coasters. Ther were some wood slats under the rails, but the super structure was steel--that's why it was "a fast, smooth ride..."

I remember this coaster as the "yellow coaster"....... i remember singing "hands up-baby hands up- gimme your heart gimme gimme your heart gimme gimme" while going up the clacketty hill :-)

Every summer my Dad would take me to Crystal Beach up until it closed. I think the Giant Coaster was one of my first coaster rides. Despite the warnings of hanging on to all loose articles, I remember my father catching a kid's baseball cap as it flew off going down the first hill. Those evenings at Crystal Beach was one of my fondest memories of growing up. Thanks Dad, Love, Tam

Other fondest memory? Going to downtown Buffalo at Christmas time with my Mom to see the animation in the windows at AM&As. Love, Tam

This was THE YELLOW Roller Coaster....not the COMET...This Coaster was in the Middle of the Park across from the Scrambler...Just before the Concession Stands (with the GREAT FRIES and Waffles....and Crystal Beach Suckers....lol).....The COMET was "flanked" by the Lake ....The building you see to the LEFT of the Coaster entrance was the BINGO hall and Indoor Picnic Pavillion for LARGE Pinics....like UAW...etc.....Remember ??? ;o)

FYI re: Paula's post. The comet was also a wooden roller coaster.

As a young girl I could only gather enough nerve to ride the Giant roller coaster. I made a point to ride it at least once everytime we went to the beach. I loved the noise the wooden one made versus the comet. Thanks for the memories.

I don't like to ride coasters. I rode this one and passed out! I really liked the "Old Mill". Sigh.
