Ethan Edward "Pop" Hicks opened the diner on January 1, 1936. It became a Route 66 icon, eventually becoming the oldest restaurant on Route 66. Mr. Hicks sold the restaurant in 1968. The new owners operated it until it was destroyed by fire on August 2, 1999.
