I grew up on Johnson Street.........71 Johnson. Engine 27 was on my side of the street(East)....near Broadway. What happened to it?

I am looking for any information on the career of my grandfather, Chester John Kirchmeyer. I remember visitng the station as achild and also the boat. He was a lifelong Buffalo resident who died in 1989. I am not certaiin how long he was with the BFD. Any info would be appreciated.

Hello. I am looking to find archive information regarding 1920's Buffalo firefighters. I believe my grandfather was assigned to Engine 27 at the time, but I am not certain. Anyone have any advice on who to contact to get information? Thanks a bunch!!

Can anybody help me? I am British and living in the UK but my Grandfather Henry Reas was a fireman in Buffalo. I know nothing about him other than an old photograph I have which shows him riding on the foot plate of an engine named engine 27. My father, who recently died, returned to the U.K with his mom in 1936. Not sure how old the picture is..maybe 1920's? I don't know why they returned or what happened to Henry Reas. Is there an archive I might be able to search in relation to the Buffalo Fire Service?

RESCUE THREE DID MOST OF THE RESCUE CALLS FOR THE CITY,WHEN THEY CHANGE TO RESCUE[1]THE ENGINE COMPANYS STARTED TO RESPOND TO FIRST AID CALLS.ENGINE 27 ALWAYS WENT TO FIRES UNDERMAN BECAUSE TWO OF THEIR MEN WERE ON RESCUE THREE.THERE WAS'NT A HEAVY RESCUE THREE.THEY CHANGED RESCUE [3] TO HEAVY RESCUE [1]ON BROADWAY.ENGINE [27]WAS THE FIRST FIRE COMPANY TO CLOSE WHEN THEY STATIONED [RESCUE 1] IN [27] HOUSE.

I was a Firefighter at Truck 6 on Best St. in the late 60's/early 70's. Unfortunately, I strayed away from the department and moved to Texas and have completely lost touch with all of the (now aged,like me)great guys I worked with. If anyone reading this post worked there during the same era, or knows anyone who did, I would appreciae hearing from you.

Here's some more stuff. Don't know if these houses are still there:

Engine 13 was housed at Fire Headquarters
Engine 27 was at 33 Johnson St. Old heavy Rescue 3 was housed there too
Engine 3/Ladder 3 on Spring St.
Engine 8 on Michigan Ave
Hosetender 2 (was Engine 12 at Ellicott St.)
Engine 20 was the Fireboat Cotter
Should be Engine 11 & Ladder 4 on Niagara St. somewhere

The BFD also ran rescue squad vehicles which were Chevy Suburban types and were staffed by members of engine companies. (Except 9 and 10 which were non-FF paramedics toward the end of the squad era)

Here were the parent Engine companies (if my memory serves):

Squad 1 - Engine 1
Squad 2 - Engine 25
Squad 3 - Engine 27 (heavy rescue only)
Squad 4 - Engine 31
Squad 5 - Engine 37
Squad 6 - Engine 24
Squad 7 - Engine 15
Squad 8 - Engine 32
Squad 9 - Engine 9
Squad 10 - Engine 18
Squad 11 - Engine 2

There is no Engine 41. Buffalo FD only goes up to Engine 38.

Engine 41 - where is that located? I saw in the news paper there was Engine forty one listed with about twenty guys stationed there ! Never heard of it!

Engine 36 and ladder 13 are on hertel ave not ladder 12. Ladder 13 was housed with engine 38 and b47 at colvin and linden. Ladder 12 was at Amherst and grant st.

Engine 2 on Jersey also had ladder truck 9, which was housed on the left side of the building and engine 2 was on the right.

Ed again. Chemical 2 is on West St. I believe. Engine 20 (fireboat)on Michigan. Also found out the building just east of engine 37,ladder 4 is an old firehouse. Is now part of an aUTO SHOP.

You should get a picture of the Rich Products Thrift Store on Niagara St. Use to house an engine & ladder company before they moved to Rhode Island & Chennango Sts. back in the fifties

Nice site of old firehouses, but mine is not there. Spent 23 years at Ladder 7 before I went down to the alarm office. Miss the guys a lot, most are gone now but I am still plugging along. Retired 12 years now

I am the owner of Ladder 11, now. My plans are to live upstairs and to have my metal studio downstairs. I have been doing a lot of cleanup there but it only shows a little. I am looking for the City Seal that was on the front of the building and a pole to replace one of the poles inside. Even if I could just borrow one of the seals I could get a casting made. I need some roofing repairs before winter. The list goes on! I may be selling some things like the large dinner table, desk, wood lockers and metal lockers. Dont worry I won't change the looks much. PS I'm looking for a surplus 2 1/2Ton 6x6 to paint red for the garage area. Chip

Hey you forgot Eng. 3 And Rescue 1 On Broadway near downtown, make sure to get the new rescue truck in the shot too , its sharp , and it HUGE! Everyone knows its not a fire dept without a rescue truck and a few good men ;-)

good luck getting in kid if i were u id look somewhere else they arent hiring if u havent seen all the budget cuts that have been done the f.d. is sumwhat shrinking which means less firetrucks which means less jobs it was my dream to be a buffalo firefighter but that dream is shot due 2 budget cuts so ya gotta look outside the city now my friend

i love the firehosues in buffalo i grew up at the fire house of engine 31 and ladder 14 went there all the ttiem as a kid right now im a senior in high school and after that im takeing the test there has never been any question of being a buffalo firefighter for me
