Otorii Gate and the Itsukushima Shrine

The current gate dates back to 1875, however there have been numerous gates dating back to 1168. This gate is one of the most famous views of Japan. It is a free standing structure which is 16 meters high and is mad from Camphor wood.

The shrine is dedicated to the three daughters of the Shinto deity of seas and storms Susano-o no Mikoto, brother of the great sun deity, Amaterasu. The current shrine from the 16th century.
