Actually, they are not hurricane supports. They're earthquake bolts, this was how they repaired several buildings after the great earthquake of 1886. Hopefully we won't get another one (though some experts say we're overdue!), since those buildings are bolted together so tightly they would not survive it. I'm a Charleston historian and occasional tour guide, and love your photos! Was searching for a specific photo to email to an out of town friend and landed on your page :)
