Longquan celadon was widely produced in southern China. The centre of production
was located in Longquan county in the southwestern area of Zhejiang province.
In the early stages of production, Longquan wares were influenced by Yue ware in
shape, decoration and glaze. In the southern Song dynasty it adopted the lime-alkali
glaze and produced wares similar to those made by the Guan official kilns and it
developed it's unique celadon glazes named "powder green" and "plum green" which
are opaque greyish green and greyish blue respectively. Longquan products were
popular both in domestic and foreign markets. From the Song to the Yuan dynasty,
Longquan wares were exported on maritime trade routes to areas as far flung as
Eastern Africa and Arabia.
