Bauhinia blakeana,Hong Kong orchid tree,was given a scientific description by S.T. Dunn
in 1908. Dunn assigned it to the bauhinia genus, and named it after Sir Henry Blake,
governor of Hong Kong 1898-1903.the flower of this tree has been adopted as the
national floral emblem of Hong Kong.
This photo of the flower was taken in Monto Queensland, where it was found growing beside the road.
