Inca Condor Tue 24

the Inca style
represented a synthesis of the greatness of the pre-Columbian
Peruvian Cultures, nourished by contributions from preceding
peoples. This bottle, of perfect simplicity, gathers some characteristics
of the chimú style – thus exemplifying the expansion of the Cusco
people as far as the north coastal region – yet adds a characteristically
Inca imprint of its own which can be appreciated in the form of the
neck and rim as well as in the masterly treatment of the sculptural element.

The words (above) are from the notes titled “Sculpted bottle Representation
of a Condor”, on display at “Museo de Arte Precolombino”, Cusco, Peru.
