I took this image way back in 1988. I had just gotten out of the Navy
and was spending the summer with my folks. I was looking for a job as
an industrial photographer, and a local manufacturing company did a lot
of things with metal. I went with this idea to show them that I could photograph
things made out of metal.
This was photographed in my parents basement. The stars are pinholes and nailholes
of different sizes poked into black seamless background paper. My shutter was set on bulb,
the room was totally dark during the exposure which was probably two minutes or so.
The lagbolts were lit by one main flash exposure, but the stars were illuminated by 26 pops
of the strobe behind the paper. Thus the long exposure time.
By the way, I got the job!
