Wind power

I have always been fascinated by windmills. Some people complain that windmills are ugly or they give them a headache, but for me there is something captivating in those massive propellers slowly turning round and churning out tons of electricity. Most of the windmills you see here are large installations which generate some 2 Megawatts of power, enough for about 5000 people. Although windpower is still one of the more expensive electricity sources today - each windmill costs between 2 and 3 mln Euro to build - hopefully this will become the way of the future. I have always been interested in windmills also. I a collection photos I have taken from farm windmills, dutch windmills and windfarms. I love the photos you have here. How can one say they are a boring subject. If we run out of our natural resources we may well be depending on them for energy.

I recently finished a diy wind generator for the back yard. It's not producing much in the way of electricity, but it was a very rewarding experience (and a great way to escape from the wife)

I've found out not long ago that the propeller blades were made out of concrete and weigh about 2 tons apiece... This gallery is a great tribute to a new source of energy. V.

These are beautiful machines, especially compared to the belching smokestacks of coal-fired energy plants, and you capture them beautifully. I'm working with a company now that's struggling to bring consumer wind turbines to the state of Rhode Island. Strangely enough, the USA is behind much of the world on this. I guess there's a first time for everything ;o)

I cannot understand why people don't like windmills. These photos show they are things of beauty and symmetry. Also they stand for energy efficiency, independence from oil, and can be a means to avoid the violence now plaquing oil rich lands. Thanks for the carefully done images.
