.. this is me, my brother Paul, and my ma who is carrying my brother Carey; we are
standing in front of Wild Bill Hickock's grave on Boot Hill... the woman with us is
Joyce Bear, a Lakota woman who cared for us because my ma worked outside the home as
a registered nurse... at the time this photo was made we were living in North Dakota
while my dad worked on the Garrison Dam project that ultimately removed the Hidatsa,
Mandan and Arikara people from their homelands by the Missouri River... an irony that
has never escaped me....
