Agraulis vanillae
I was walking across the parking lot at the wildlife refuge when I spotted this shiny gulf fritillary in the vegetation alongside the pavement. In many southern states this species can be inticed to come north from Mexico to private butterfly gardens if one plants passion vines, its larval host plant.
