It is the most western municipality in Liébana, bordering with León to the south-west, and to the west with the Principado de Asturias, separated by the Picos de Europa mountains. The river Deva flows through the municipality west to east, shaping an impressive valley. It is very mountainous, with heights over 2,000 m.The mixed livestock and the harvesting of potatoes, legumes and vineyards, mainly, are the local traditional economic activities, now reinforced by the important tourist development of the last years. Tourism counts with two important attractions: The cable car in Fuente Dé, in Picos de Europa, and the monastery of Santo Toribio.
