The Japanese Tower was designed and built in 1900 by the architect Knud Arne Petersen. Between 1901 and 2009, it was called The Chinese Tower. From the book "The Tivoli Season 1900" (published by the Tivoli programme, ed. Axel Breidahl):"The next of Tivoli's great new buildings is "The Japanese Tower", which has been built after a design by Dir. Arne Petersen. The tower, which is 80 feet high, is attractively located at the end of the Lake, where previously "The Public's Attention was drawn to the Rose Blooms". It is divided into four Floors, of which presently only the two lower ones are accessible to the public. Here, Mr David Metz pours his well-known "The and other Refreshments". The Japanese Tower has a particularly decorative Effect, especially as a Link in the great Festival Illuminations, when its sparkling Contours are reflected in the Lake."From 2010, the tower was again called The Japanese Tower and run as an Asian restaurant. There are approx. 2,800 coloured domes on the Japanese Tower and its annexes.
