It's a very popular city to live and densely populated. This means a lot of people in a small area, and housing is incredibly expensive in Amsterdam. Without a decent job or a long wait on the social housing list, it is hard to be able to live in Amsterdam on a single salary.
Summertime is always nice there to sit on a terrace with a friend & a drink and watch all the characters (local and tourists) that pass by. It';s a busy city but for a capital city quite small and easy to get around, therefore you still get the feeling of a cozy Intimate city instead of just another barren interchangeable one you can find in other countries.
