The Secession Building in Vienna is an exhibition hall built in 1897 by Joseph Maria Olbrich.
The motto of the Secessionist movement is written above the entrance of the pavilion: "To every age its art, to every art its freedom" (German: Der Zeit ihre Kunst. Der Kunst ihre Freiheit).
A spherical dome of intertwined golden laurel leaves is visible on the roof. The dome reminded the Viennese of a head of cabbage, hence its nick-name the "golden head of cabbage".
