The Holy Cross Chapel, located at Upper Level II at 91.0 metres underground, was created in 1860 as an offering for the mine's escape from a catastrophic leak in the mid 19th century.
The statues of saints found in this chapel are almost two hundred years older. The figure of Our Lady Victorious is from the 17th century.
Sacred objects accompanied the miners in their work (often brought by them) and "travelled" along with them: moving from one job to another.
