The palms are inseparable part of Polish culture and tradition during Easter time. The simplest Polish palm is a bunch of pussy willows adorned with boxwood sprigs near the base.
Polish and Bavarian Roman Catholics, Russian Orthodox and various other East European peoples carry pussy willows on Palm Sunday instead of palm branches (which do not grow that far north).
It is customary to begin Palm Sunday services with a procession, in which a palm-carrying congregation circles the parish church.
This custom has continued to this day among Russian Orthodox, Polish Catholic, and Ukrainian Catholic emigrees in North America.
