“The Big Tree” in the Styx valley of southern Tasmania. This Eucalyptus regnans (Swamp Gum) is now 91 metres tall (the top having blown out) and is the tallest known tree in Australia and the tallest hardwood tree in the world. The platform on which I'm standing is perhaps 9 feet from the ground at the base of the tree.
