Few people driving along the main road from Tavistock to Princetown can have failed to be fascinated by the pile of rocks which make up this enigmatic little tor about half a mile off the road and perched on the side of a valley. Sadly, it is private property and in recent years it has been off-limits to walkers and climbers. From another angle, people have described it as Dartmoor's version of the Sphinx.
