A dhobi ghat is basically a giant, manually operated Laundromat. Laundry is collected and sent to an area with rows of concrete wells, some for washing and some for rinsing. The washing method involves simply beating the wet garments repeatedly on a rock or slab of concrete. This particular operation even washed linens for a local hospital.
