I saw lots of orbweavers in the area around the cottage and harbour. While the majority of them were the familiar Garden Cross Orbweavers, two of them which had built their webs under the eaves of one of the buildings near the wharf looked different. Thanks to C. Hanrahan for confirming the ID of this spider as Larinioides sclopetarius, a species which tends to live on man-made objects close to water rather than in vegetation.
