The hibiscus is probably the most popular and widely planted flowering shrub in Florida.
Although long cultivated in the sunshine state, the hibiscus is believed to be native
to China and came to Florida by way of the South Pacific and Hawaii.
Most hibiscus varieties have one-day flowers; the blossoms open early in the morning and wilt late that afternoon.
