Lighter roller weights in the variator raise the RPMs where pulley ratio changes are made. Keeping the RPMs near the motor's peak power range will produce the best acceleration and hill climbing power. Using too light of a roller weight will cause the rev limiter to engage before reaching high gear and the top speed will be lower, like staying in 3rd gear with a 5 speed transmission.
