I began by creating a spiderweb type image in Photoshop (from scratch, no photo) and placed a gradient behind the web. I saved it as a displacement map. I then applied the displacement map to a closeup of Jonah. I then copied the same image over and over again, changing sizes and orientation. I then smoothed the overlap for each image layer.
