Moore-McCormack Line's S.S. Brasil was the second to last ocean liner built in the United States (the last was
her sister, Argentina). Brasil was completed in 1958 and sailed between New York and South America. Unprofitable,
both ships were mothballed in 1969.
Holland-America bought both sisters in 1972, and Brasil became Veendam. She sailed as Monarch Sun for
Monarch Cruise Line, then Volendam again, then as American Hawaii's Liberte, Bermuda Star Line's Queen of Bermuda
(shown above) and Commodore's Enchanted Seas. Finally in 1995 she became a floating classroom, renamed Universe Explorer.
She was retired and sailed for Hong Kong in 2004, and scrapped at Alang soon after.
