Auschwitz II-Birkenau. The railroad extends beyond the "Gate of Death" into a "ramp" where people (mainly Jews) exited the trains and the initial selection took place. Most of them were send directly to the gas chambers located nearby. Some who were fit for work were allowed to live for a few months, until they inevitably died of disease or overwork.
