Gao Xiu Village: Homes tend to be in individual groups around the village. Often the people living in these grouped homes have the same last name, which is common in many of villages of the Kam and Miao minority people of China. It was noticed that these groups, which are clans also congregated in their respective drum towers. When no drum towers were present within the home grouping the natural socializing within the community shifted and was either not as strong or often a store front might be used to gather and talk. There were also some buildings that resembled the drum towers first floor but they did not have the multi layered roof, which is very important and always present in drum towers. As more drum towers are built, this Kam community's life is returning to their historical and meaningful roots which is helping to imbue many of the values that permeate Kam tradition.
