What little remains of the double wall that surrounded Gaoxiu Village can be seen in the center and far left of this image. Most of the earthen wall has eroded but is evident in the eastern section of the village. It was stated by a local leader that Gao Xiu was the garrison for the area and protected the villages to the north because the valley narrowed in this area.
In the past the Kam and Miao at times had conflicts but as the Han became more of a concern and they were both attached by the armies of the Han, the Kam and Miao became allies. The ties of the Kam and Miao have remained and often ideas and practices are exchanged.
