Often a container that is used for the tobacco and baengx (pronounced bung), which is the tender used to help start the burning of tobacco, is tied to the stem of the pipe. The tobacco container is often made of carved water buffalo horn and less frequently a local hard wood. The stem of the pipe is commonly made of a special bamboo that is very decorative with many nodes. Bamboo root, which has many nodules and is very exotic looking, is also used for the pipe stem.
