The headdress is not heavy but if not secured properly it will not stay in place. It was noticed that some of the young women would get exasperated with the time it took to correctly secure their headdress.

The phoenix, which is seen on many Kam decorations, adorns the top of this silver headdress. Silver fish also decorate much of this crown and along with the phoenix are an important symbol within Kam society.
