The engines were wrapped in plastic film and a de-humidifier was connected to blow dry air into the boiler and firebox to keep moisture out, thereby combating rust. Although the engine looks a bit ragged to a casual eye, it is mainly cosmetic. The protective layer of Tectyl did it's part of keeping the loco intact too.

It's apparent that this scheme worked quite well, given that the engine has been standing here for 45 years. Anyone who knows the weather here and has seen steel being left out to the elements know that this lady would have been closer to a pile of rust if left without protection.
