Gen. Beauregard (1818-1893) Also Used Jacksonville, Ga. Route After Civil War

On the south side of the Jacksonville, Ga., area, at the plantations of the Ashleys and Boyds, Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard visited after his surrender. John Laurence Manning, former S.C. Governor and nephew of Jacksonvillian Laurence Manning, had been a military aide of Beauregard. He probably advised the Ocmulgee route for the famous Confederate general as he made his way home to New Orleans.
